Youth gain experience in public speaking and have opportunities to compete for college scholarships.

Recognize and reward local law enforcement officers/workers for their contributions to the community.


Junior Golf Championship

Boys and girls ages 10-18 compete in Optimist qualifying golf tournaments. The best advance to the Junior Golf Championship.


Essay Contest

Middle and high school students write essays on a given theme with an opportunity to win cash prizes and a $2,500 college scholarship


Communication Contest of the
Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Help deaf and hard of hearing students develop skills and confidence to present in sign language or orally a prepared speech on a theme. College scholarships are awarded.


Childhood Cancer Campaign

Provide support to children with cancer and their families. Some of these funds go to Bogey Creek Camp for Children to attend summer camp.


Internet Safety

Internet safety program designed to help children about potential dangers and how to protect themselves online. Program raises awareness of cyber-bullying, inappropriate content and internet predators.


Community Projects


Ronald McDonald House

Dinner is prepared and served to families with children who are in All Children’s Hospital. About 60-70 people are fed four times a year.


Just Say No to Drugs Poster Contest

Local 4th and 5th grade students compete for cash prizes by making posters that promote a drug-free lifestyle.


Citizen of the Month Awards

Local schools are the recipient of buttons, bumper stickers, and certificates to students who are chosen by their teachers to be outstanding citizens. Includes grades K-5 in elementary schools. We serve 18 schools in Pinellas County and participating teachers receive supplies.



Held annually in April, 70 children are invited to fish, eat lunch, win trophies and participate in a chance to win a bicycle. Each child gets to keep his rod and reel.


Salvation Army Bell Ringers

Optimist volunteers to ring bells outside Publix to collect needed donations for the red kettle.


Pack A Sack

Donation of funds to provide food for hungry school children on weekends.
